About the Project:
Initiated by Stadtwerkstatt (Linz, Austria) and cycleX (Andes, New York) with network participation internationally, Mycelium Network Society (MNS) imagines an underground network situated in a post-internet mudland and powered by fungus, spores, culture, kitchen, radio, transmission, installations, workshops and performances.
In conjunction with Mycelium Network Society exhibition at Taipei Biennale, we will hold an opening night performance on November 17, 2018 at Taipei Fine Arts Museum. We call for local Taiwan based sound artists to collectively develop a group performance ritual for the audible, electromagnetic, networked, touch, vocal, electronic activition launching the local human/mycelial network installation of Mycelium Network Society.
During the performance, seventeen artists will play with spatially defined radio signals emitted by the Lingzhi mushroom molecule (modeled after patulin structure with 17 atoms) installation. Artists will also work with their own approaches to handheld Lingzhi fungi which will serve as audio and full spectrum instruments. The performance is a collaboration between electronic sensibilities and the extra human realms of radio frequency and Lingzhi.
The workshop and performance are conducted by Martin Howse (www.1010.co.uk) in collaboration with Lai Tsung Yun of Lacking Sound Festival.
