Hsiao Yu-Li (b1997. Tainan, Taiwan) is a creator in between engineering and fine art, most of his artworks are sound and kinetic installations. Due to his interest in percussion improvisation and machines, Yu-Li focuses on the deformation process of sound between Acoustic and Sampling. While studying for his MFA at Taipei National University of the Arts (Taiwan), Yu-Li organised his concept of juxtaposing electronic waste and technical objects with the human body system, and began to create his skill of assemblage and anatomy for e-waste. In recent years, when Yu-Li collaborates with creators from different fields, he often thinks about the relationship between organisms and inorganic matter from the perspective of mechanics, and tries to find out how the two can interfere with each other.
Yu-Li has participated in 2nd Ju Percussion Group Lab, Group 3, "Phenomenon Field ⇌ Auditory" as mechanic installation design, 2057:Rehearsing Ways of Living "Rehearsing with hiṟing" as sound and installation design, and held a solo exhibition “Open Up a few Un-Rotting Corpses” in 2023.
In 2024, he was shortlisted for the 22nd Taishin Arts Award with his collaborated work "Re-Fracture".
